Not As Dim As It Sims - Dim Sum Making Class
飲茶

Yum Cha
is a term in Cantonese which means "drink tea".  It refers to the custom of eating small servings of different foods while sipping Chinese tea.  Yum Cha is the term used to describe the dining session.

Dim Sum is the name for a Chinese cuisine which involves a wide range of light, delicate dishes served alongside Chinese tea.  Dim Sum are the words to describe the style of food.

Urban Graze will show you how to make 6 of the most popular deluxe Dim Sum dishes including everybody’s favourite, salt & pepper squid.  There will also be lots of steamed goodies including how to make beautiful transparent pastry.  You will get the opportunity to make all of the pastries and fillings from scratch and everyone will make all 6 items.  Once all is prepared, we will fire up the woks and fryers and cook what we have just made, then sit down to Chinese tea and of course plenty of dim sum.

At the beginning of the class we will go through some essential Chinese ingredients which can all be bought at any Asian Grocer.  You will be given a copy of the ingredient list as well as all of the recipes to take home with you.

How can you relate this class to home?
All of these dim sum can be made at home using normal kitchen utensils and a bamboo steamer to cook them in.  You can also make lots at a time and freeze them and then when you’re ready, they can be easily cooked from frozen.
